Que Desastre

QUE DESASTRE

The pictures in this installation come from the collection of images re-appropriated by Erik Kessels. Taken out of their original context you are forced to look at them in a different way other than purely practical. They become mysterious. At first, they make you wonder what happened at the sight, something clearly went wrong. At a second glance, after you’ve freed yourself from searching for an explanation and from trying to ‘fix’ the damage seen the image, they become visually intriguing, beautiful and yes, artistic even.

By expanding our view on what belongs in on a gallery wall and what doesn’t and by opening our eyes to other forms of photography, a whole new world opens up. It’s a world where the ‘rules’ of professional artistic photography don’t exist and because of that surprises lurk around every corner.
