Play Public

play public

For the Bentway Conservancy (Toronto) in collaboration with Scotiabank Contact Photography festival Kessels and Mailaender worked with the CNE photography collection. A rich collection that’s build since 1879. With this exhibition of the photographic history of Canada’s largest fair, both artists want the public to play with the archive. An archive that is normally not very accessible for the public, is shown under the arches of the Bentway area. They show photographs on constructed wooden objects and panels in a playful way. These panels look like 'remains' of a fairground site and are arranged like a track or a parcour throughout an area. Visitors can interact with these constructions by jumping, climbing or sitting on them and photograph themselves together with the funny past. By actively participating in the playground your body and your eyes can burn some calories.
